‘Spring Clean’ with your team!
Yes, springtime is indeed the perfect time for so many things…gardening, tuning up the bikes for family rides, the start of baseball, soccer and golf, skiing in a t-shirt…
Notice we left out ‘spring cleaning’ as we want to talk about this from a different perspective. Usually ‘spring cleaning’ involves a weekend in the garage or basement, sorting, sweeping, decluttering and getting orgazined for the summer season ahead. The reality is that we do this at home but we should be doing this at work as well. There is no easy way around it, either at home or at work, but the truth is you just need to put in the hard work and everyone knows that you feel 100% better when it is done.
Early spring is the perfect time to take advantage of the shift that everyone is feeling after sloughing off the winter. There is a new-ness, a revived energy to be tapped into and explored as a team; so take a few days and ‘spring clean’ as a team. Go through the good, the bad and the ugly, see which methods led to success and which ones are turning up dead ends. Or, perhaps it is time to get the team together and do some profiling to make sure that everyone is in the right job, at the right time, with the right team members around them. There are a million ways to ‘spring clean’ but the important part is that you take the time to do it.
Where you do your team ‘spring clean’ matters as well. We can’t begin to tell you how many of our groups are astonished at how much more they have accomplished, and how much ‘deeper’ they have been able to go as a team while on site with us. The flow, and absence of interruption, obviously are key factors in their success, but many continue to say that it is the ambience and off-hours of casually spending time bonding, sharing meals, playing pool, going for walks, or enjoying the scenery from the deck with a glass of wine is what the secret ingredient is. Many groups also incorporate ‘non work’ activities such as fly fishing, yoga, orienteering, trail riding, drum circles, guest speakers, wine tasting, etc., to bring about a different type of colleague bonding experience.
We recently launched our first video on YouTube and would love for you to envision your team enjoying time together at The Crossing…
