THE MAGIC BEHIND THE CROSSING
Our History
The Crossing at Ghost River, a Castleavery Hospitality Ventures property and proud member of the Charming Inns of Alberta, is a true hidden gem conveniently located 20 minutes from the Westside of Cochrane, Alberta and an hour from downtown Calgary.
The history of The Crossing at Ghost River first began with the region’s Indigenous people who used a low point in the river as a “crossing”. In later years this crossing connected and aided early explorers, traders, and settlers in many of the same ways. The land, as a whole, has always provided opportunities to connect its visitors with its countless treasures and natural beauty. The land continues to be recognized for its intangible qualities, rich history and natural beauty.
In the late 70’s, The Crossing started its journey as a unique conference and retreat centre, providing a meeting place to exchange ideas and connect with oneself, with nature, and with others.
Nestled within 145 rolling acres set along the peaceful and picturesque Ghost River, The Crossing offers a truly unique setting for retreats, weddings, corporate meetings, special events and individual stays.

Land Acknowledgement
In acknowledgment and with deep respect for the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded these lands for generations, we honor the Iyarhe Nakoda, whose traditional territory includes the area of the Crossing at Ghost River. This recognition is a commitment to truth, reciprocity, and reconciliation as we also acknowledge the entirety of Treaty Seven Territory and the Blackfoot Confederacy, comprising of the Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot), Iyarhe Nakoda, and Tsuu T’ina. The Nakoda nation is comprised of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, Wesley, and Eden Valley Nations, and the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), consisting of the Siksika, Piikani and Kainai Nations and the Tsuu T’ina Nation, which embody a deeply rich and enduring cultural heritage. We also acknowledge our neighbors in Districts 5 and 6 of the Metis Nation, which calls Calgary Home.
This gathering place provides us with a profound opportunity to confront outdated belief systems as we engage in and demonstrate and exemplify leadership in reconciliation.
Thank you for your enthusiasm and brave commitment to join our team on the lands of Treaty 7 Territory and the Blackfoot Confederacy.
