About Us

Southern Alberta’s Premiere Riverside Retreat

The Crossing at Ghost River is a charming country inn, retreat centre, and event venue nestled on 145 acres of quiet meadows and forested trails along the Ghost River in rural Cochrane. Part of Castleavery Hospitality Ventures Inc., and a proud member of the Charming Inns of Alberta, The Crossing is a hidden gem in Cochrane. Whether you come to celebrate, collaborate, or simply breathe more deeply, our peaceful riverside setting invites you to slow down and reconnect—with yourself, with others, and with the natural world.

A Place with Deep Roots

For generations, this land has been a natural crossing point—first for Indigenous peoples, then for early settlers, explorers, and traders, all drawn by its beauty and strategic location. The name “The Crossing” honors this rich legacy of journey, connection, and renewal.

In the late 1970s, the property entered a new chapter as a retreat centre and gathering place. Since then, it has welcomed guests seeking meaningful escapes—whether for intimate weddings, corporate offsites, creative workshops, wellness retreats, solo adventures, or family vacations.

Our Location

A Hidden Gem in Cochrane

Though it feels remote, The Crossing is just an hour outside of CalgarySet in Cochrane, in the heart of Alberta’s ranchlands, where the rolling Foothills meet the Rockies, our property is surrounded by pristine wilderness, working farmland, and wide-open skies.

There’s a quiet, country charm here—where the spirit of the West still lingers in the air, and the pace of life is unhurried. It’s a place where birdsong and rustling leaves replace city noise, and where golden fields, forested trails, and the winding Ghost River invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect.

Land Acknowledgement

In acknowledgment and with deep respect for the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded these lands for generations, we honor the Iyarhe Nakoda, whose traditional territory includes the area of the Crossing at Ghost River. This recognition is a commitment to truth, reciprocity, and reconciliation as we also acknowledge the entirety of Treaty Seven Territory and the Blackfoot Confederacy, comprising of the Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot), Iyarhe Nakoda, and Tsuu T’ina. The Nakoda nation is comprised of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, Wesley, and Eden Valley Nations, and the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), consisting of the Siksika, Piikani and Kainai Nations and the Tsuu T’ina Nation, which embody a deeply rich and enduring cultural heritage. We also acknowledge our neighbors in Districts 5 and 6 of the Metis Nation, which calls Calgary Home.

This gathering place provides us with a profound opportunity to confront outdated belief systems as we engage in and demonstrate and exemplify leadership in reconciliation.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and brave commitment to join our team on the lands of Treaty 7 Territory and the Blackfoot Confederacy.
